This weekend we played a rainy but beautiful course in Comox. The Village Park Disc Golf Course is located in Comox, near the Rec Center. Hole one is located directly across the road from entrance to the Rec Center. Parking is on the road conveniently in front of the teebox for hole 1. The course is well laid out around a playground, which gives the little ones a way to have fun while daddy disc golfs. There are 9 baskets, with heavy chains and are well maintained. The course begins and ends near the road, so there are two shots that have a clear possibility of going into the road. I like to hang a large hizer over the road and come in strong for hole 9. If its well done it makes for a good finish, as the black berrins are quite thick in that region, but landing in the well mown grassy areas provide a clear avenue to the baskets.
The trails are all over the course, making finding your disc easier. You also need to watch out for walkers, as they can appear out of nowhere. There is the Fire Station right next to the baskets on hole 1 and hole 3, with a Out Of Bounds being over the fence on hole 3.
On Saturday it was raining so I needed to use my umbrella throughout the game, and got quite wet. But I learned the course well enough to play three more rounds on Sunday with my daughter and a friend. Zyre is getting good enough to beat me in a game, so I offered her $20.00 if she ever beats me in a game, or $10.00 if she ties me. I also offered her $50.00 if she wins 1st place in her category in a tournament, or $20.00 if she wins second or third place in a tournament.
Play the Comox course, it's nice.
So then we were on our way home and it was a nice Sunday evening, and it wasn't raining very hard, so I asked my daughter if she wanted to play a quick round of 18 at Nanaimo Bowen Park Course. She very wisely said yes, and so we convinced my wife that it was OK to play a quick round of 18. I got Par for the Course for the first time in Nanaimo. Zyre did quite well, with a +14. I keep telling her that it is a tough course for junior players to get par, so all the holes are par 4, and a few are par 5. That made her feel better, but she still really wants to get par. I told her its not easy, but it takes time and she is down for the game.
Play Nanaimo, its nice.
